ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Will Johnson, a true sophomore Michigan football star defensive back and a former five-star prospect, set the tone during yesterday’s 30-24 victory over No. 2 Ohio State. Early on in the first quarter of “The Game,” Johnson picked off Buckeye quarterback Kyle McCord, giving the Maize and Blue the football inside of the ten-yard line, eventually getting Michigan on the board with a Blake Corum touchdown run. Later on, Johnson left the game with an injury — something we heard more on from acting head coach Sherrone Moore after the game.

Injury news for Michigan football star defensive back

Sherrone Moore just earned his fourth win as Michigan’s head coach, defeating No. 2 Ohio State by six points and improving to 12-0 heading into the Big Ten title game next weekend. With a third straight College Football Playoff berth and more on the line, Michigan is hoping to get superstar defensive back Will Johnson — a cornerback — back before facing the Iowa Hawkeyes (10-2, 7-2 Big Ten) on Saturday.

Sherrone Moore gives an update on Will Johnson

After the game, Sherrone Moore gave us more insight into the injury status of Will Johnson with Iowa on the clock.

“Yeah, I think (Will Johnson) just had a lower leg injury,” Michigan football acting head coach Sherrone Moore said following the Ohio State win. “I think he will be alright. But the guys just adjusted well. I mean, end the game with a pick (from Rod Moore) — pretty good. So excited. Excited for the defense and what they did (against the Buckeyes) and how they adjusted.”

Michigan hoping to get star defender back following Ohio State

If Michigan football is to capture another Big Ten title, make the College Football Playoff, and, yes, finally win the national championship, getting Will Johnson back is essential. In the coming days, I am sure that we will hear more about the Wolverines’ star defensive back, though for now, it sounds like everyone is standing by and waiting until there is 100% confirmation that Johnson is good to play.
