ANN ARBOR, Mich. — On Saturday, Michigan Wolverines fans can rejoice following their school’s thrid-straight victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes. Amid the sign-stealing scandal, with Jim Harbaugh suspended, and more, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy and his team still managed to take home a 30-24 win against Ryan Day and his No. 2 Buckeyes, punching their ticket to another Big Ten title game (against Iowa) and likely the College Football Playoff as well. After the game, McCarthy took some time to address how his team is perceived despite the controversy.

Amid the sign-stealing scandal, Michigan football quarterback and team have strong identity

For the first time in program history, Michigan football is 12-0 for the second season in a row. JJ McCarthy, the Wolverines’ quarterback, just earned his third Big Ten East title, and in one week, he will have a chance to win a third-straight Big Ten Championship and College Football Playoff berth. Additionally, as a starter, JJ McCarthy is now 24-1 — he is also 3-0 against the Buckeyes during his Michigan career.

The Michigan football sign-stealing scandal has been in the headlines more than Michigan’s elite football team as of late — something that has led to the suspension of Jim Harbaugh, the slandering of U-M’s national brand on networks like ESPN, the firing of Chris Partridge, and more.

Wolverines just focused on their goals following Ohio State win

Still, JJ McCarthy and his teammates overcame the odds on Saturday afternoon, claiming an impressive 30-24 win over Ohio State. After the game, Michigan’s QB addressed all of the controversy that surrounds the Maize and Blue right now.

“(Everyone) is entitled to their own opinion,” the star Michigan football quarterback said. “The thing that I just think of is: we (Michigan) only care about us. We only care about what we’re doing — that fulfillment internally, that’s all we care about. We’ll just keep doing us.”

Against No. 2 Ohio State yesterday afternoon, JJ McCarthy completed 16 of his 20 passes for nearly 150 yards and a touchdown. Perhaps JJ’s most important stat remains his perfect record against the Buckeyes and his 1-0 record against Kyle McCord, who is a massive reason that McCarthy ended up with the Maize and Blue and not in Columbus.
