On paper, Michigan’s 2023 recruiting class was pretty underwhelming; the Wolverines’ class hardly ranked in the top 20 and was primarily comprised of three-star players despite all of the program’s recent on-field successes. Still, the class has quite a few underrated studs, including Michigan football freshman cornerback Cameron Calhoun, one of the Wolverines’ top 2023 signees.

Who is Michigan football freshman cornerback Cameron Calhoun?

Cam Calhoun just signed with the Michigan football team as a member of the Wolverines’ most recent class and is already making a name for himself this spring. As a recruit, Calhoun was rated as a four-star by the 247 Sports Composite ratings; he was ranked as the No. 41 cornerback in the class and the No. 12 player in the state of Ohio — he committed on November 26th, the day of Michigan’s massive 45-23 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus, OH.

Calhoun will begin his college football career with a solid 6-foot-0, 171-pound frame, and — seeing as Michigan has some depth concerns at cornerback right now — he may find some solid playing time this fall.

Jim Harbaugh praises his freshman corner

Here is what Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh had to say about Calhoun after he signed with the Wolverines.

“He is one of the top cornerbacks in the state of Ohio,” Harbaugh said. “Erica and Randy, his parents very influential in the decision. Academics and football were the major priority to Cam and his family. Very productive player in high school. He just always seems to be around the football. Over 50 tackles as a junior and as a senior he had five-plus interceptions eat each year, I think five as a junior and then nine — nine as a junior and then five as a senior.

“Charismatic — he’s got this empathetic side, also. And one of these guys that loves to recruit. Had a lot of conversations with him over texts and on the phone. He just strikes you as someone that’s gonna be a great teammate. And a really good fit and our defensive backfield.”

Keep an eye on Calhoun throughout the 2023 season this fall and the years to come as he looks to develop into the next great Michigan football cornerback. He will be wearing number 22 this season.
