A few younger Michigan football quarterbacks — Jayden Denegal and Alex Orji — have been turning heads since the start of the 2023 season in Ann Arbor. On Tuesday, we heard from Indiana transfer QB Jack Tuttle, the Wolverines’ second-string quarterback behind JJ McCarthy, on how these two sophomores are progressing and what their future in the Maize and Blue may look like.

Since transferring from Indiana to Michigan football, Jack Tuttle has seen a lot from the Wolverines and their offense. Something that has apparently stood out quite a bit is a pair of rising star sophomore quarterbacks: Jayden Denegal and Alex Orji.

“Yeah, the boys,” Jack Tuttle began, speaking with the media on Tuesday evening. “I’m so proud of those guys too. I think everybody in that room has just made a huge jump from camp, from nine (JJ McCarthy) to the rest of us. Orji (Alex Orji), (Jayden) Denegal and Dave (Davis Warren) have done a great job just progressing and playing a game and growing.

“And I think they’re gonna keep doing that,” Tuttle added. “But like I said before, I’m just super proud of them. I think mentally is where a lot of it’s come from — being able to get through their reads faster, timing up footwork to plays — it’s just been phenomenal. So we’re gonna keep heading up.”

While Jack Tuttle remains the Wolverines’ backup quarterback, there are plenty of competent quarterbacks in the Michigan football locker room right now. Last weekend, during the team’s 49-0 win over Michigan State in East Lansing, both Alex Orji and Jayden Denegal got some solid playing time — with the 2023 season starting to come to a close, it’s impressive to still see these two potential future stars getting so much in-game action.
