Ahead of the 2023-24 season, Juwan Howard made significant moves in the transfer portal. This winter will play a crucial role in the future of the Michigan basketball program — if Howard and his Wolverines fail to regain momentum, they may find themselves in need of a new head coach sooner rather than later. One key player who will be instrumental in Michigan’s turnaround is Olivier Nkamhoua, a transfer from Tennessee. Nkamhoua committed to the Wolverines last month following Caleb Williams’ de-commitment.

Michigan basketball transfer portal addition ranked top 5 in the Big Ten conference

Olivier Nkamhoua’s addition to the Michigan basketball transfer portal class was a significant move for the Wolverines leading up to the 2023-24 season. His recruitment was a rollercoaster ride, with moments when it seemed unlikely that the Maize and Blue would secure his commitment. However, Juwan Howard and his team ultimately emerged victorious, adding a formidable player to the Wolverines’ roster ahead of a crucial season.

According to 247 Sports, this new addition through the Michigan basketball transfer portal ranks among the top 5 in the Big Ten for the upcoming 2023-24 season. During his previous season with the Tennessee Volunteers, Nkamhoua maintained an average of nearly 11 points per game and 5 assists per game. Notably, he showcased his potential by scoring 20 or more points in five games last fall, meaning there is a good chance that he may become a major presence for the Maize and Blue throughout the coming season.

Furthermore, Olivier Nkamhoua delivered an outstanding performance during the NCAA tournament, leading many to believe that he could be a top performer in the Big Ten conference in the upcoming season, perhaps leading the Wolverines back to Big Ten title and NCAA tournament contention in the months to come.
