The college football transfer portal just opened, yet it has been just as chaotic — perhaps even more so — as everyone expected it to be. While the Wolverines are still in the hunt for the program’s fist national title since 1997, the Michigan football coaching staff must eye the portal as much as they can in order to replenish losses heading into the 2024 season. One name that just hit the portal that is bound to turn heads in Ann Arbor is Texas A&M defensive lineman Walter Nolen, the No. 1 player in the portal right now.

Next year’s Michigan football defensive line should be pretty well-off, assuming the Wolverines retain Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant (both sophomores). Still, Michigan football could use more depth and rotation guys, similar to what Jesse Minter is doing with his defense this fall, and it appears that the perfect transfer portal target is now on the market.

Former five-star defensive tackle Walter Nolen, a member of the class of 2022, has decided to transfer from Texas A&M, and it would seem that Michigan football could get right into the mix. First off, Michigan’s defense is a perfect fit for Nolen, and, perhaps more importantly, it’s clear that the Wolverines want his skill set on their roster, seeing as he was a top target for the Wolverines coming out of high school.

New insider reports also suggest that Michigan football — alongside a few others, such as Tennessee, LSU, Georgia, Texas, and more — is a potential landing spot for the current No. 1 player in the transfer portal. It sounds like there are a number of good options on the table and being considered by the Nolen family, including a return to Texas A&M, which could make things interesting as Michigan and others likely recruit him ahead of the 2024 season.

Michigan’s season remains ongoing, and the 2024 roster is far from set, though Walter Nolen is a major name for Michigan football fans to keep an eye on as the transfer portal period picks up.
