Ryan Day and his Ohio State Buckeyes have been on the wrong side of the OSU-Michigan football rivalry game for quite some time; in fact, the Buckeyes’ last win over the Wolverines was the final year of last decade (2019). With Jim Harbaugh and his Wolverines claiming a third straight Big Ten title and making a run at the College Football Playoff (Rose Bowl vs. Alabama), Day recently gave his latest thoughts on Ohio State’s woes in “The Game.”

Tide turns in Ohio State-Michigan football rivalry

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is in an interesting spot when it comes to his job security right now. On one hand, Day has an incredible record, two Big Ten titles, a national title game appearance, an undefeated record against all Big Ten schools but one, and more. Yet, he is 1-3 against Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football, which is perhaps the most important part of being head coach in Columbus.

Latest from Ryan Day

After suffering his third straight loss — this time, a 30-24 defeat at the hands of Sherrone Moore — Ryan Day had to give some updated thoughts on the Michigan football rivalry and where things stand.

“I just believe in that,” Ryan Day said ahead of the Cotton Bowl against Missouri. “And then, you know, we haven’t got it done (against Michigan) in the last few years. So it hurts, but ultimately, that’s like — when you get up in the morning if you’re not thinking about winning that game, then you probably don’t deserve to be in the program. And so we have to continue to work on that and get it done. And then, you know, once we accomplish that, and then we’ll go on from there.”

Michigan football to play Alabama in Rose Bowl (CFP), Ohio State to face Missouri in regular New Year’s Six game

Right now, Ryan Day has a flow of transfer portal losses heading out the door, including starting quarterback Kyle McCord and other starters. Additionally, the loss of Marvin Harrison Jr. will be rough for the Buckeyes, but seeing as OSU recruits at an insanely high level, I am sure Ohio State will manage to recover next year.

Still, for the time being, Day is well below .500 against Michigan football, and will have to watch Jim Harbaugh face No. 4 Alabama in the Rose Bowl for a shot at the national title game.
