Jim Harbaugh has been known to shuffle players around to fit his team’s needs and get the best 11 players on the field at all times. The most recent position change for the Wolverines came in the form of Reece Atteberry, who was moved from offensive line to defensive tackle just over a week before the 2023 home opener against East Carolina. Last week, the team named Zak Zinter a Michigan football captain for the upcoming season. Shortly after the announcement, Zinter had a chance to comment on Atteberry’s move and more.

Reece Atteberry is one of the newest defensive linemen for the Wolverines. According to Michigan football captain Zak Zinter, he is already standing out as a defensive tackle heading into the 2023 season.

“Yeah, I came into the building, and I was like, ‘Reece? Where’s Reece?’ He’s not sitting behind me in meetings anymore,” Michigan football captain Zak Zinter said. “But I think it’s been a great change for him. He’s learned the defense really quickly, he’s been getting a lot of reps, and he’s a big dude to move. He’s strong too. So I think it’s going to be a good move for him.”

As a follow-up, Zinter was asked about what moves Atteberry has been showcasing during his first few days as a defensive tackle. Here is what he had to say.

“I think every defensive lineman’s first move is a push-pull,” Zinter said, “so we’ve seen that before. He’s still learning, but he’s been doing a really good job.”

When fall camp first started, Atteberry was listed as an offensive lineman. However, according to the team website, Atteberry is now listed as a full-fledged defensive lineman. This fall, keep an eye on the massive 6-foot-5, 309-pound tackle as he aims to make an impact on the opposite side of the football, building on the experience he has gained from past years.
