The Wolverines’ defensive backfield has been stellar so far this season, which is especially impressive considering the vast injury issues throughout the cornerback and safety corps. Last weekend, Makari Paige was ruled out, while other stars — such as Will Johnson and Rod Moore — were questionable and heavily limited. This evening, Michigan football captain Mike Sainristil — a 5th-year senior — gave some key injury info for the Maize and Blue defense.

Michigan football captain shares key injury news for the Wolverines

Mike Sainristil, one of the top cornerbacks in the country and a Michigan football captain this year, spoke with the media yesterday evening. There, he informed us that Makari Paige and Will Johnson were out on the practice field today, while veteran safety (and the No. 1-graded safety in the Big Ten) Rod Moore is still battling his way back.

“Yes, Will (Johnson) was out there, Makari (Paige) was out there,” the Michigan football captain said. “Rod (Moore) is still coming back.”

Additionally, Mike Sainristil could not hold back his excitement for the Michigan football secondary to be back on the field together and 100% healthy. According to Jay Harbaugh — who addressed the media after the Wolverines’ win over UNLV last weekend — that day could be coming soon.

“Once the whole secondary is back, the whole pack is back, it’s gonna be — I’ll just leave it at that,” Sainristil explained. “I can’t wait to be out there with everybody, 100 percent.”

Wolverines’ depth is stepping up in a big way right now

While Sainristil says that he figured Michigan football may be without a few players to begin the year, he has been pleased with how the team’s depth has done so far.

“I feel like we all knew that we’d have some guys that were down — Makari, Rod, Will,” Sainristil said. “So, those guys at practice are stepping up and making sure they’re taking advantage of their opportunity to play right now. … As a leader out there, my job is to make sure that they’re in the right positions, as well as taking care of my job. I’m helping them, and they’re doing a great job at staying ready.”
