Yesterday, a few new reports were released regarding the Wolverines’ current sign-stealing scandal, suspended staffer Connor Stalions, head coach Jim Harbaugh, and ex-OC Matt Weiss. Yet again, Michigan football fans have been left with more questions than answers. Here are the top questions that people are asking heading into the weekend — which is sure to bring about more new reports.

Michigan football fans have more questions following the latest wave of reports

ESPN report

Yesterday’s ESPN report from Pete Thamel stated clearly that the NCAA has been in Ann Arbor investigating Michigan football throughout the week. While it has been confirmed that the coaching staff, including Jim Harbaugh, has not been interviewed yet, it is suspected that they will be in the near future — perhaps something helpful to keep in mind is that the team has a bye weekend this week.

In Thamel’s report, one major question came about: will the Big Ten or College Football Playoff do anything? By now, we have established that the NCAA cannot really do much before the end of the 2023 season, so any action from here on out would have to come from the University of Michigan, the CFP committee, or the conference itself.

Yahoo report

Yesterday, Yahoo Sports reported that TCU was well aware of Michigan’s alleged sign-stealing scandal, with one coach hyping it up as one of the most elaborate in the world, which is funny considering it was apparently just iPhone recordings.

Regardless, it was reported that Ohio State and others told TCU of Michigan football and its ability to steal signs, prompting the Horned Frogs to hold up dummy signs, which many believe tricked the Wolverines. This brings about a pair of new questions for fans to want answers to.

First, it was not confirmed that Michigan had been at any TCU games, so did the Wolverines ever have their signs? Ross Dellenger tries to spin it as if Michigan was in attendance for a road game or the Big 12 title game, though provides no evidence, and even stated that there was no proof that Connor Stalions had scouted the Frogs.

Secondly — and more importantly, in my opinion — if Michigan football was well-known for its spying ring, and it had been common knowledge in coaching cirles for years, why did no one blow the whistle sooner? Once again, this is a question that many are asking, though no one can answer.

Freep report

Last night, it was reported that former Michigan football offensive coordinator Matt Weiss, who was the OC under Jim Harbaugh for a single season (2022), is being investigated by the FBI. Weiss was fired earlier this year from the Michigan coaching staff after alleged “computer access crimes,” though ever since, nothing more has come of it.

Yesterday, amid the sign-stealing scandal, the name Matt Weiss began to float around again. It is confirmed that his crimes are not linked to Connor Stalions or the Michigan football sign-stealing scandal, and it is unsure whether the football program is still linked to any of this, though everyone is asking the same question about Weiss right now: what in the world did he do?
