After crushing the Michigan State Spartans on the road 49-0 last weekend, the Michigan football team has a bye this week. Before facing Purdue in Week 10, the Wolverines have been subject to tons of outside noise — from investigations into Jim Harbaugh and the coaching staff to the FBI’s involvement in the Matt Weiss computer access crimes investigation, it has been a messy week for the Maize and Blue. Still, the team remains unfazed by all of this outside noise — here is how JJ McCarthy and Rod Moore say that the Wolverines are staying locked in on a national title run.

The next few months will entirely define the future of the Michigan football team — with NCAA and FBI investigations surrounding the program right now, what’s next for the Wolverines seems entirely uncertain. That said, over the coming months, Michigan will likely have a shot at winning the Big Ten title for the third year in a row and breaking the team’s nearly three-decade-long national title drought.

With so much at stake and so much outside noise, we met with a few of the team’s star players this week, where they explained how Michigan football is keeping its focus right now.

“I mean, we really just don’t pay attention to the outside distractions,” star safety Rod Moore said on Tuesday. “We just focus on what we have going on here in this building as a team and what our goals are and trying to get to the national championship and win the next game.”

Quarterback JJ McCarthy also chimed in on Monday.

“I don’t really know,” JJ McCarthy said when asked if there is a target on Michigan’s back. “I’m just so focused on what we’re doing in the building, and so is he (Jim Harbaugh), that it never really becomes a distraction, and we never really think of it as anything other than, you know, Coach Harbaugh has to deal with something new once again. So he does a great job of just keeping us focused on the main thing, which is winning football games.”

Michigan football will face the Boilermakers next weekend before heading to Happy Valley for a crucial Week 11 test against the Penn State Nittany Lions.
