Michigan football intel: offensive starter is playing through injury

Yesterday, 9th-year head coach Jim Harbaugh addressed a number of concerns and questions surrounding his program. There, Harbaugh explained that Michigan football offensive line starter Myles Hinton — a Stanford transfer who has been starting at right tackle — is playing through injury heading into Week 5 against Nebraska.

Myles Hinton, a transfer portal addition for Michigan football this year, earned himself a starting role at right tackle during fall camp. So far, he has seen his ups and downs with the Wolverines; however, according to Jim Harbaugh, we haven’t really seen the best of Hinton just yet. From what Harbaugh said, it’s clear that Hinton is not at 100% right now — he is working through some kind of injury.

“Right now, we’ve been using six (offensive linemen),” Jim Harbaugh said on the ‘Inside Michigan Football’ radio show with Jon Jansen. “Myles (Hinton) is playing really good. He’s kind of working through something, too, where it’s good not to play every snap as that heals up. But he’s getting movement, and the perfect word you used is gelling. They (the offensive line) are gelling. You can see it. They’re getting movement individually, and they’re getting movement as a group — and it’s coming. There were a lot more plays this week where all 11 were doing exactly what they were supposed to do, doing it with precision and unison.”

Additionally, during his Monday press conference, Michigan football captain and offensive guard Trevor Keegan had a chance to comment on where the offensive line is at so far. According to Keegan, he is optimistic about the Wolverines’ OL through four games despite some early season woes.

“I mean, I feel like the last two years — especially last year — I mean, we didn’t play too well the first five games,” Keegan said of the 2022 Michigan football offensive line. “We were like, ‘Yeah, there’s like no way we’re gonna win’ (the Joe Moore Award). We weren’t playing that well. Until the Penn State game, and we’re like, ‘Alright,’ and then we just kept rolling from there. So it’s gonna take a couple of weeks for us.

“I mean, we didn’t have a spring ball together, but, I mean, once this thing gets rolling, we’re gonna be playing really well,” he continued. “When you have 9-10 in the box, it’s kind of hard to really break out the runs. So it’s gonna come soon, I can feel it.”

This weekend, when Michigan football hits the road and heads to Nebraska, offensive starter Myles Hinton may be limited or rotated quite a bit due to an ongoing battle with some kind of injury.
