For the time being, it sounds like a major Michigan football position battle has been settled. The Wolverines now have five true starters along the offensive line, according to offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore, who addressed the media earlier this afternoon. Notably, two new transfers (Myles Hinton and Drake Nugent) have earned starting roles heading into Week 3 of the 2023 season.

Michigan football position battle update — offensive line has its starters

From the tackles to the guards and the center, the Michigan football offensive line now has five true starters. Earlier today, Sherrone Moore gave us an update on how the O-line battle played out, including the fact that two transfers are now full-time starters… for now.

While no one’s job is ever truly safe, here are the Wolverines’ five starting offensive linemen:

  • TACKLES: Karsen Barnhart and Myles Hinton
  • GUARDS: Trevor Keegan and Zak Zinter
  • CENTER: Drake Nugent

Offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore gives more on the O-line battle

Offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore gave us more on this Michigan football position battle earlier today.

“Like we always say — ‘The depth chart flows,’” Moore said. “So, if guys don’t practice or play well the next week, then that will change. But right now, we know our starting five.

“… Whenever I take over the line that first day in camp, I tell them, ‘I don’t care who starts because I love you all the same.’ The five guys that practice the best and play the best will be the starters,” he continued. “I’m going to put out the five best guys that are going to help the University of Michigan football team win. And that’s who it is. It’s not an emotional decision. It’s based on film. Whoever those people are, that’s who I want it to be. … Those five guys have shown to be the best five, so we’re just going to continue to work and see who the best five is this week and the next weeks and the next weeks.”

While this Michigan football position battle is still subject to change, it appears that the Wolverines’ offensive line has found its best five players.
