Today, at 6:00 PM (EST), Michigan football improved its 2024 class by a good bit. The Wolverines added four-star in-state prospect Jacob Oden to their 2024 class — Oden is now Michigan’s highest-rated prospect in the 2024 class, passing four-star linebacker Mason Curtis.

Oden ups Michigan’s class

In case you are unfamiliar with Jacob Oden as a prospect, here is an excerpt from a previous Blue by Ninety column on the four-star athlete:

“Oden would be a massive pickup for Michigan’s 2024 class, which could break the top 10 with some help. The Wolverines need some skill players in the class, and keeping an in-state player with as much talent as Oden has would be huge. Jacob Oden is a four-star recruit according to 247 Sports and is ranked as the No. 160 player in the nation, the No. 17 athlete in the 2024 class, and the No. 5 player in the state.”

In case it isn’t clear, just like everyone else, we are high on Michigan’s newest pickup. Oden will likely play defensive back in Ann Arbor, however, he is listed as an athlete on 247 Sports, meaning the Wolverines could move him around a bit if they so choose.

Michigan football: 2024 class is shaping up

Before Oden’s commitment this evening, Michigan football boasted the nation’s No. 12 class (No. 12 composite). Since Oden’s commitment, the Wolverines now claim a top 10 recruiting class thus far; it is early, but so far, so good for Jim Harbaugh and his staff in the 2024 class.

Michigan’s 2023 class is admittedly nothing too special on paper, though there are a few diamonds in the rough that the Wolverines have managed to land. That being said, Harbaugh is finally getting back on the saddle when it comes to acquiring talent through the door of Schembechler Hall.
