Desmond Howard, a Michigan football legend and one of the top college football analysts in the media world right now, recently reacted to the NCAA investigation into Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines, who are accused of illegal sign-stealing practices. While there is a lot of media buzz out there right now, the evidence is lacking, and according to Howard, what Michigan did is simply called “scouting.”

Michigan football legend Desmond Howard slams new NCAA investigation

After news of an NCAA investigation into Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football broke on Thursday, ex-Wolverine Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard was quick to respond.

“My initial reaction was like — the headline was more salacious than the content,” Michigan football legend and current college football analyst Desmond Howard said. “That’s what I thought. Then I had to educate myself. I mean, you have Bart Scott on the set, you have Mike Tannenbaum. We call that scouting. I didn’t even know that was a rule, that you couldn’t go and watch a team play, who you’re going to play against because there’s an NCAA rule. Like, I had no idea. I’m like, ‘Does the NCAA think we’re back in the 70s, where we just exchange VHS tapes, and then that’s how you see your opponent?’ I was really blown away by that.”

Jim Harbaugh, University of Michigan will be fully cooperative in sign-stealing investigation

Jim Harbaugh and the University of Michigan football program have been quite open about all of this coming as a surprise. Additionally, the school and its coaching staff will be cooperating to the fullest extent, and Desmond Howard is interested to see where things go from here.

“But with that being said, (Jim) Harbaugh said he was surprised by the allegation,” Howard continued. “He said that they’ll cooperate fully. Warde Manuel, the Athletic Director, he echoed those sentiments. So we’ll see where it goes.”

Tomorrow, No. 2 Michigan football must tune out the noise and take down the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing before getting a much-needed Week 9 bye.
