The Michigan football offense was among the nation’s top six last fall in both total offense and scoring offense. When the Maize and Blue take the field this fall, expectations are going to be even higher as Michigan pursues a national title for the first time since 1997. According to college football analyst Phil Steele, one of the most trusted voices in the game, the Wolverines are projected to have one of the top three scoring offenses in the country heading into the new season.

After finishing the 2022 season with one of the best offenses in the country, Michigan football is looking for even more production this fall.

Last year, behind the elite duo of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, Michigan found its way to a 13-1 overall season with a Big Ten title and a College Football Playoff (CFP) appearance. Additionally, the Wolverines claimed massive victories over teams like Penn State (41-17), Ohio State (45-23), and Purdue (43-22, Big Ten title game), and scored 45 points in the Fiesta Bowl.

This year, the offensive line appears to be the strongest it has ever been and will lead the way for the Maize and Blue once again. Additionally, the Michigan football offense boasts perhaps the best backfield in college football, with both Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards returning this fall.

Headlining Michigan’s impressive offense is rising junior quarterback JJ McCarthy, a former five-star recruit who came into his own as a sophomore last year. McCarthy took over for Michigan football during Week 2 of the 2022 season, and towards the end of last year, he proved to be one of the better quarterbacks in the nation, leading his Wolverines to a 22-point win over Ohio State and a 21-point win in the Big Ten title game.

With all the talent and production returning to Ann Arbor this fall, the Michigan football offense is stronger than ever and is projected to be among the top three offenses in the nation, coming in at No. 3 nationally. Michigan’s offense is ranked behind Georgia (1) and Ohio State (2) in Phil Steele’s rankings.
