Michigan Wolverines football has won two consecutive Big Ten championships, finishing with a 12-2 record in 2021 and a 13-1 record in 2022. As the new season approaches, Michigan is expected to mount another strong campaign for the conference title. According to ESPN, the Wolverines are considered to have an advantage in this year’s race.

Michigan Wolverines football a favorite to win this year’s Big Ten title

According to ESPN college football expert Bill Connelly, who is a staff writer, the Michigan Wolverines football team is well-positioned to secure a third consecutive Big Ten championship this coming fall. In the previous two seasons, Michigan achieved decisive victories over Ohio State and claimed the conference title in a dominant fashion. It appears that the Wolverines are poised to continue their impressive performance and make another substantial push for the title later this year.

Bill Connelly provides the following explanation for including the Wolverines among the top contenders for this year’s conference championship:

“In terms of known quantities, Michigan starts out with the edge. The Wolverines bring back their starting quarterback (J.J. McCarthy), maybe the best running back duo in college football (Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards), three starters (and five players with starting experience) from one of the nation’s best offensive lines, two outstanding linebackers (Junior Colson and Michael Barrett) and a secondary loaded with veteran safeties and one of the best young cornerbacks around (Will Johnson). They’re seventh overall in returning production, and since they’re coming off a 13-1 season, that seems like a pretty good thing.”

Michigan football has not claimed three consecutive Big Ten titles since Gary Moeller served as the head coach in the early 1990s. Therefore, this upcoming season holds significant potential for the Maize and Blue. It has the opportunity to establish the program as one of the nation’s elite, potentially laying the groundwork for sustained success in the years to come.
