With the 2023 college football season just a few weeks from kicking off, bowl predictions are starting to roll out on a regular basis. This week, CBS Sports released its 2023-24 bowl game picks and has Michigan football appearing in the College Football Playoff for the third year in a row — this time, the Wolverines are picked to face Nick Saban’s Alabama Crimson Tide in an insane Rose Bowl matchup.

Michigan football pitted against Alabama Crimson Tide in new bowl predictions

It has been a few years since the Alabama Crimson Tide claimed a national title, which is a weird thought for college football fans, who have watched Nick Saban dominate the game for over a decade now. Recently, CBS Sports unveiled its 2023 bowl game predictions ahead of the coming college football season and has pitted Michigan football against Alabama in the Rose Bowl game — needless to say, this is an insane matchup for the Maize and Blue, who faced TCU in the Fiesta Bowl last year.

Michigan football is currently on a six-game losing skid when it comes to bowl games, and the Wolverines are 0-2 in College Football Playoff games. That said, this year could be the year that Michigan changes the narrative, perhaps finally competing for a national title for the first time since 1997.

Michigan football has faced Alabama once before under 9th-year head coach Jim Harbaugh — the 2020 Citrus Bowl. Despite holding a small lead at halftime, Shea Patterson and the Wolverines could not overcome Mac Jones and the Crimsode Tide, eventually falling short and finishing the year 9-4 overall.

This fall, if CBS’s bowl picks come to fruition, Michigan football will be looking for some revenge from the turn of the decade, punching the program’s ticket to the national title game along the way and claiming a Rose Bowl win for the first time since Charles Woodson led his Wolverines to an undefeated season and national championship nearly 30 years ago.
