The 2023 season is just over three weeks from kicking off for Michigan Wolverines football, which is coming off of back-to-back College Football Playoff appearances and more. With the best roster of the Jim Harbaugh era and tons of experience, this year’s Wolverines appear poised to finally break through the glass ceiling and make a push for the national title game — according to Colin Cowherd, the Maize and Blue are title game bound, and will face an interesting opponent this year: the LSU Tigers.

Michigan Wolverines football projected to clash with the LSU Tigers in this year’s national title game

Last year, Michigan football was just six points away from extending its game against TCU in the College Football Playoff — a game that the Wolverines ultimately fell short in, 51-45. With most of the team returning, including Heisman Trophy contender Blake Corum and starting quarterback JJ McCarthy, the Wolverines are once again poised to make a CFP run, this time with a good chance of breaking through and reaching the national title game.

Recently, national sports analyst Colin Cowherd went on his show, ‘The Herd,’ and made his official pick for this year’s national title game. According to Cowherd, Michigan Wolverines football will face off against the LSU Tigers to conclude this year’s College Football Playoff.

“I have Michigan facing LSU in the championship,” Cowherd stated. “I don’t think LSU is the best SEC team, I don’t think they’re the deepest,” said Cowherd. “But I love the coach, I love the quarterback, and I looked at their schedule, and I think LSU? It’s going to be a lot of people knocking each other off. I like LSU a lot.”

One thing that all college football fans can agree on is that they would like this year’s national title game to be somehow competitive. Last year, Georgia ran TCU out of the building, winning 65-7 all said and done and frustrating all fans that the two best teams were clearly not in the title game by season’s end.

“I think it would be a real story because Brian Kelly was at Notre Dame, and Notre Dame has resonance (in Los Angeles). And I think if they beat Michigan and it was a competitive game? It’d be a win for college football,” said Cowherd. “The SEC winning is not bad. The SEC beating Michigan State in the playoff by 40 is bad. So, if it’s LSU 35-33? I’ve got no problem with that.”
