This weekend, with Jim Harbaugh and Sherrone Moore out of the picture due to suspensions, first-year Michigan football quarterback coach Kirk Campbell will be calling plays on offense. From the sound of things, this means that junior QB JJ McCarthy is going to have a massive opportunity to start his 2023 campaign with a bang this weekend.
Kirk Campbell could call a fun offense this weekend
To start the year, Kirk Campbell is going to be calling plays on offense, which could indicate that there are some fireworks in the Wolverines’ future. According to running back Kalel Mullings, some big opportunities could be handed to Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy and the Wolverine passing attack.
“I definitely think there’s going to be a lot of shots and creativity in the passing game,” Mullings said at Schembechler Hall yesterday. “I’ve noticed that through camp, and I’m excited to see how it develops throughout the season.”
Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy continues to garner high praise
With a season of starting experience under his belt (and a Big Ten title ring to match), JJ McCarthy appears poised for a huge junior campaign. A number of top analysts think that the Wolverines are the No. 1 team in the country right now, and all of them point to the third-year Michigan football quarterback as the deciding factor in their rankings.
“He looks great,” Kalel Mullings said of junior Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy. “The explosive and the splash plays that he’s made since he got here have just continued. His ability to throw and use his legs. The dude is super fast, super strong arm, super accurate. He has it all, and he’s just continued to develop and looks great.”
Veteran wide receiver adds to the excitement
Veteran Michigan football wide receiver Cornelius Johnson was also asked about JJ McCarthy yesterday. Here is what he had to say.
“Throughout the year, (JJ McCarthy) and I’s friendship has grown throughout the year, throughout all the other receivers as time goes on,” veteran wide receiver Cornelius Johnson said. “And hopefully, that relationship correlates to the field and any other stuff going on. It’s just good to see us bonding together, whether it’s on the field, or off the field, and then growing into passing and getting that timing down. I feel like that matters a lot throughout the season.”
While the Wolverines are usually a run-first team, Kirk Campbell may have some bigger passing plays in mind this weekend. Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy has been gaining tons of local and national hype this offseason, and will have a massive opportunity to show the world what he has got against East Carolina to open the 2023 season.
