Over the weekend, superstar Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy had himself yet another solid game, completing 16 of his 20 passes against Ohio State for 148 yards, a touchdown, and more en route to a 30-24 victory over the Buckeyes — his third win over OSU in a row. Following the game, major NFL outlet Pro Football Network unveiled a new 2024 mock draft, pinning McCarthy as a top 10 pick and keeping him close to home in the NFC North.
Michigan football quarterback headed to Green Bay Packers as a top 10 NFL Draft pick?
JJ McCarthy, a native of Illinois, grew up as a Chicago Bears fan, though new mock drafts pin the Michigan football quarterback as a potential first-round pick for the Green Bay Packers. Of course, the Bears will have first dibs, yet it seems far more likely that they will select Caleb Williams with an earlier pick.
Green Bay, on the other hand, is projected to pick at No. 9 by Pro Football Network, perhaps selecting JJ McCarthy in hopes that he will be Jordan Love’s successor. Of course, seeing as McCarthy is an Illinois native and a current Michigan resident, this will keep the junior QB close to home in familiar territory: NFC North Country.
JJ McCarthy has earned national respect, elite status
So far this fall, JJ McCarthy has been nothing short of impressive for Michigan football, leading the Wolverines to a perfect 12-0 record for the second season in a row. While he hasn’t been asked to do all that much, some of his stats — such as his 74.3 completion percentage, his 2,483 passing yards, his 19 passing touchdowns, and perhaps most importantly, his 90.8 QBR (3rd nationally) — have been quite telling about how good he truly is.
If you want a first-hand showcase of how good JJ McCarthy has been, this throw (below) from last Saturday is a pretty good indication of how things are going in Ann Arbor.
There is little chance that JJ McCarthy will return to the sidelines in Ann Arbor next fall, though his Michigan football legacy is shaping up quite nicely so far. He is 3-0 against Ohio State, could win his third Big Ten title, appear in the College Football Playoff for the third time in a row, and potentially capture Michigan’s first national championship since the 1997 season.
