Today marks the 8th day of fall camp for the Wolverines, and it also signifies the first day of full-pads practice for Michigan football. Earlier, the program shared a few highlights on social media, once again teasing fans with quick glimpses of this year’s team ahead of the fall opener next month. Second-year starting quarterback JJ McCarthy looks a bit different now — rocking a visor in these new clips.

Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy stood out as potentially the best Michigan football QB of the Jim Harbaugh era (since 2015) during his first year as a starter in Ann Arbor. His resume is already impressive — since signing with the Maize and Blue, McCarthy holds a 2-0 record against Ohio State and Penn State, two Big Ten title rings, and has seen action in two College Football Playoff games.

While Michigan football fell short against TCU in last year’s Fiesta Bowl (CFP semifinal), the Wolverines are determined to reclaim the top spot in college football this year. As Michigan aims for its first national title in decades, JJ McCarthy is sporting a new look, adding a visor to his helmet.

Throughout Jim Harbaugh’s nearly 9-year tenure as head coach of the Michigan football program, only one Wolverine quarterback has donned a visor — Joe Milton, who started as QB1 in 2020. If McCarthy continues to wear the visor throughout the upcoming season, fans will undoubtedly be hoping for a different outcome from what transpired with Joe Milton at the start of the decade.
