Today, Michigan football recruiting is hosting a multitude of significant visitors in the 2024 cycle. However, last night, four-star edge rusher Aaron Chiles, previously seen as a strong candidate for the Wolverines, declared his commitment to the Florida Gators. Consequently, the Maize and Blue find themselves in a crucial situation with regards to several elite linebackers/pass rushers. One such player is four-star edge Devon Baxter, who has now become a top-priority recruit for Jim Harbaugh.

Michigan football recruiting trending for major edge rusher

Despite having an upcoming official visit with Virginia Tech next weekend, Michigan football recruiting seems to be in an excellent position to secure the commitment of 2024 four-star edge rusher Devon Baxter. He has emerged as a top priority for the Maize and Blue recently. Following a recent miss on Aaron Chiles, another highly sought-after defensive prospect, the Wolverines are in need of successful acquisitions in the pass-rushing department, and Baxter appears to fit the bill.

The coaching staff, led by defensive play-caller Jesse Minter, who is entering his second season with the Wolverines, is highly impressed with Baxter’s potential and has made him a prime target in this recruiting cycle. Michigan football has established a reputation for developing outstanding edge rushers in recent years, and the addition of Baxter could continue this trend.

This weekend, the four-star pass rush specialist is visiting Ann Arbor for an official visit. Reports indicate that the Maize and Blue have been performing exceptionally well with their official visitors so far — especially when it comes to Baxter’s recruitment.

According to the ON3 rankings, Devon Baxter is a four-star edge rusher from Gwynn Park High School in Maryland. Currently, Michigan football recruiting has an overwhelmingly high chance (nearly 95%) of securing Baxter’s commitment. Barring any unforeseen influence from Virginia Tech during his visit next weekend, it is expected that Jim Harbaugh will add yet another elite defensive target to his 2024 recruiting class in the coming weeks.
