Yesterday, former Georgia Bulldog commit Jaylen Heyward, a four-star target in the 2024 cycle, announced his de-commitment from his former team. According to reports, Michigan football recruiting never let up the pressure with Heyward and quietly continued to pursue him, even after he committed to Georgia. Now, it seems highly likely that the Wolverines will make a much larger and more public push to bring this top 100 prospect to Ann Arbor, MI.
Michigan football recruiting could make a late push for recent Georgia de-commit
The 2024 Michigan football recruiting class already boasts 26 hard commits and counting thus far; having this many commits in July is a new experience for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines — that said, it appears to be working quite well for the Maize and Blue. Despite this plethora of commitments, Michigan has only secured one safety in this class and has shown significant interest in adding four-star safety Jaylen Heyward, who was previously committed to Georgia.
EJ Holland of ON3 confirmed last night that, despite Heyward’s initial commitment to Georgia, Michigan football never ceased their recruitment efforts, which could bode well for the Maize and Blue with his recruitment back to the forefront.
According to the On3 recruiting industry rankings, Heyward is rated as a four-star recruit and is ranked as the No. 96 player in the nation, the No. 5 safety in the 2024 class, and the No. 13 player in the state of Florida. Given that he has been a top target for Michigan football for quite some time, it is expected that the Wolverines will vigorously compete for his commitment now that he is back on the market.
