A new report was published this afternoon via Sports Illustrated, which claims to have leaked text messages from suspended Michigan football staffer Connor Stalions. As we all know by now, Stalions is at the center of the Wolverines’ sign-stealing scandal, which has been the No. 1 piece of college sporting news over the past week. Among Stalions’ leaked messages is a text where he owns up to sign-stealing, though specifies that he does so in a legal manner, per NCAA rules.

Here is what Connor Stalions said in a text message to a friend who was reportedly looking to get a foot in the door of D1 college football coaching.

“Pre-covid, (I) stole opponent signals during the week (by) watching TV copies, then flew to the game and stood next to Gattis (former Michigan football OC Josh Gattis) and told him what coverage/pressure he was getting,” Stalions allegedly wrote in a text, per a new Sports Illustrated report.

While what Connor Stalions is being accused of is illegal, per NCAA rules; however, the sign-stealing that he admitted to in these leaked texts is legal. As long as he was at home using TV copies alone, as he claims he was doing, he was well within the rules.

With that said, as I mentioned, the reports that he was using in-person scouts make his actions detrimental to the Wolverines, if proven correct.

We will continue to update this info and cover more reports as they are released and all of this unfolds for Stalions and the Michigan football program.
