Michigan football star Donovan Edwards is one of the best college football players right now. When Blake Corum went down with an injury last year, Edwards rose to the occasion, playing a massive role in the Wolverines’ wins over Ohio State and in the Big Ten title game. Heading into the 2023 season, Edwards is zeroed in on becoming a top NFL Draft pick and more, but first, he and his team must keep these ambitions at bay in favor of making a run at the national title game.
Michigan football star keeping NFL Draft ambitions at bay in favor of a national title run and more with the Wolverines
Donovan Edwards, a former five-star running back recruit and current Michigan football star, is one of the most versatile and dangerous players in all of college football. After the coming season, he will be eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft, where he wants to be a top pick and take his talents to the next level.
Still, in order to get there, Donovan Edwards and Michigan football must focus on what is right in front of them — this year holds national title-caliber expectations for the Wolverines, who have appeared in two straight College Football Playoffs and more this decade.
“I have to be where my feet are,” Edwards said, according to Pro Football Focus. “I can’t be where I want to be, which is a first overall draft pick, if I’m not producing here. I can do everything excellent, but the only thing for me is the staying healthy part. If I can’t do that, that will be my only downfall. If I can do that and we go to the national championship, then everybody’s going to eat when it comes to the NFL draft. That’s the main goal: win games so everybody can eat.”
2024 NFL Draft is likely the next step for Edwards
Peeking down the road, Donovan Edwards held nothing back when talking about his long-term goals as a football player. Once his days with Michigan football are over, the rising Wolverine star running back plans on being the best NFL running back to ever play the game, bringing a unique and revolutionary style to the gridiron.
“I will go down as one of the greatest running backs to ever play the game,” Edwards explained. “I’ll be up there with Walter Payton, Barry Sanders. I believe I will revolutionize the game and the position. This is the perfect time for me because the NFL wants running backs who can catch. If the NFL wants a linebacker on me, good luck with that. I don’t care who you are. Good luck guarding me. I see all the stuff right now with how the running backs aren’t getting paid. I believe that I’ll get paid for how I play the game.”
