Michigan football will need some wide receivers to step up in 2024 and here is one breakout candidate for the Wolverines.

Wearing the No. 1 jersey comes with a lot of hype when you are a Michigan football player, but Roman Wilson proved he was up to the task this past season.

Wilson was spectacular as the No. 1 wideout for Michigan fooball with 48 receptions for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also averaged 16.4 yards per reception.

This week, Wilson is among the record number of Michigan football players invited to the combine and he talked about breakout candidates for the Wolverines in 2024.

Fans know Semaj Morgan and Tyler Morris well. Morris caught a touchdown pass in the Rose Bowl, while Morgan put together a stellar freshman season which included a touchdown in the win over Penn State.

Yet, when asked for a breakout candidate at wide receiver in 2024, Wilson named another player, Fredrick Moore.

Wilson talked about Moore at the NFL combine on Friday saying, “He’s got the size, the speed, the work. He’s gonna be a dawg this year and next year and the year after.”

Moore is 6-foot-1, 180 pounds and while he didn’t see a ton of action as a freshman, he caught four passes for 32 yards in his Michigan football debut.

Ranked as No. 503 overall in the 247 Sports composite rankings, Moore played in 13 games last season. He turned some heads last fall, the only problem is that Wilson and Cornelius Johnson made it difficult for younger guys to get much traction.

But with Morris and Morgan likely on top of the depth chart, there is a huge opening for playing time on the outside and if Moore is a “dawg” in 2024 as Wilson says, that would be massive for the Wolverines and whoever the starting quarterback winds up being.
