Last weekend, new Michigan football transfer addition AJ Barner — a veteran Big Ten tight end — helped the Wolverines to a 52-7 victory over the Indiana Hoosiers, his former team. This weekend, Barner will experience the Michigan-Michigan State rivalry for the first time, and according to offensive play-caller Sherrone Moore, he has been nothing short of impressive through seven games of this first year in Ann Arbor.

Michigan football transfer addition is “super impressive”

AJ Barner was a team captain and statistical leader for Indiana over the past few years; however, after the 2022 season, he decided it was time for a change. Not long after entering the transfer portal, Barner picked Michigan football as his landing spot and has since been developing at a rapid rate.

While he wasn’t seen as a major blocking tight end before, he is now, and Sherrone Moore is quite impressed.

“Yeah, I’ve been super impressed by AJ (Barner) and what he’s done in pass-catching but, especially as a blocker,” Sherrone Moore said on Wednesday. “He’s really cemented himself as a legit blocker in college football at the tight end position. He takes a lot of pride in it, and to see the work that he does in practice, what he’s done in the weight room in the offseason, and he’s just done such a phenomenal job, and we’re very proud and happy that we have him.”

This weekend, AJ Barner and Michigan football are ready for a 7:30 PM kickoff against the Michigan State Spartans in East Lansing — the Wolverines’ eighth game of the year and final game before a crucial Week 9 bye.
