When ex-Indiana football star Donaven McCulley first entered the transfer portal, heads turned nationally among some of the nation’s biggest programs, including the Michigan Wolverines. That said, it appears that this incredible Michigan football transfer portal target may no longer be an option for the Maize and Blue heading into the 2024 season, as he will be staying with Indiana.

Michigan football transfer target withdrawals from transfer portal

Just over a week ago, on December 6, Michigan football became one of the first teams to offer Indiana football star wide receiver Donaven McCulley after he officially hit the NCAA transfer portal. In fact, seeing as Cornelius Johnson is on his way out, Michigan appeared to have a solid shot at landing the Indiana star, who tallied 644 receiving yards and six touchdowns this fall.

That said, on Friday, Donaven McCulley announced that he will be leaving the transfer portal and staying with Indiana football heading into the 2024 season. Of course, Indiana just made a new coaching hire — Curt Cignetti — who has Hoosier fans seemingly convinced that they will soon be competing with Michigan, Ohio State, and Michigan State. In fact, Cignetti even said that Purdue, Michigan, and Ohio State all “suck” during his introduction night in Bloomington.

So, while Michigan football will not be getting this Indiana transfer portal target, the Wolverines are still closing in on a few other major names. Additionally, Jim Harbaugh and his staff have plenty of time to lock down more depth for the 2024 roster, though the program’s priority remains on the task at hand: beating Alabama and advancing to the Big Ten Championship Game.
