Michigan football quarterback pinned as a top contender for Big Ten OPOY

After winning a Big Ten title during his first season as the Wolverines’ full-time starter, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy is thought to be the best in the entire conference. Heading into a new season, the Wolverines’ former five-star QB is being pinned as a top contender for the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, ranking one spot behind Michigan running back Blake Corum.

JJ McCarthy committed to Michigan football as a member of Jim Harbaugh’s infamous 2021 recruiting class, which included other top Wolverine performers, such as running back Donovan Edwards. For the Maize and Blue, JJ McCarthy is seen as a potential standout quarterback and could be the best QB of Jim Harbaugh’s tenure with the Wolverines thus far. As the fall opener approaches, many suspect that JJ is the best quarterback that the Big Ten conference has to offer.

JJ McCarthy is a top performer in the Big Ten

When Blake Corum was sidelined due to injury for the Wolverines’ top three games of the 2022 season, JJ McCarthy stepped up and proved to be one of the best Michigan football quarterbacks in recent history. He led the Maize and Blue to an impressive 45-23 victory in Columbus and a three-touchdown win over Purdue in the Big Ten Championship Game before falling just short against TCU in the playoff semi-final game.

According to new rankings via Saturday Tradition, Blake Corum is the No. 1 candidate for Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. That said, JJ McCarthy comes in as a close second and could be turning heads nationally in the coming months.
