Michigan football wide receiver Roman Wilson is poised for a remarkable year this fall, aiming to establish himself as a prominent pass-catching threat for junior quarterback JJ McCarthy. Although the receiving corps currently appears a bit thin, Michigan coach Ron Bellamy believes Wilson has the potential to assume a “dynamic” role with the Maize and Blue in the upcoming season.

Last year marked a breakout season for Michigan football wide receiver Roman Wilson, as he played a crucial part for the Maize and Blue and contributed to their impressive performance. However, with top wideout Ronnie Bell having transitioned to the NFL, there is now an opportunity for rising star receivers Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson to take on larger roles.

“[We want Roman to] be the most dynamic playmaker that he can be,” Ron Bellamy said on the ‘In The Trenches’ podcast. “For Roman, we talked about some of those things. When you watch his skillset — just going back and watching this past season and making some cut-ups for the receivers and whatnot. You watch Roman and say, man, this guy, you watch his game and you can watch how it’s hard for guys to cover him. He can beat you on a shallow route and go eight, he can catch a slant, he can run a post, he can go dig. He can go end-around. He’s proven all that.”

Wolverines looking to improve on offense in pursuit of a national title

Roman Wilson has fast feet, great hands, impressive route-running ability, and amazing field vision. All of these skills, combined with his vast offensive experience, should prove to be valuable for Michigan football throughout the upcoming season. If the Wolverines want to compete for a national title this fall, diversifying the offensive scheme is of the utmost importance for the Maize and Blue.

Weapons like Roman Wilson and JJ McCarthy are expected to lead the way for Michigan football in 2023, and so far, it seems like Wilson is adjusting well to his new role.

“Roman has a complete skillset, just being able to utilize that,” Bellamy continued. “Roman is a big believer. Roman knows that he’s a special football player. Now, just challenge him to be the most dynamic football player in America. That’s something that he’s chasing every day.”
