The Wolverines pushed hard to land both of the Smith brothers — Jerod Smith is already committed to the Maize and Blue, and Jacob Smith has become a priority over the past few months. Right now, the Maize and Blue appear to be in great shape with this top four-star Michigan football target, yet the Nebraska Cornhuskers are making a strong push as well.

Nebraska making push for four-star Michigan football target

Last weekend, the four-star Michigan football target visited Lincoln for an official visit with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Huskers, along with their new head coach Matt Rhule, have been aggressively pursuing Jacob Smith for the past few months. Recent reports indicate that Nebraska is highly interested in securing his commitment, just as Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines, who have already recruited Jacob’s brother, Jerod, have been.

Nebraska has emerged as a formidable competitor within the Big Ten on the recruiting trail since the arrival of their new head coach. This situation demands close attention from Michigan football as they navigate the recruitment process. Nonetheless, the Wolverines maintain a substantial lead in the Recruiting Prediction Machine and crystal balls.

Following Smith’s visit to Nebraska, the prominent four-star Michigan football target announced his upcoming unofficial visit to Ann Arbor on the 23rd. This development is excellent news for the Maize and Blue as they seek to secure their 23rd commitment for the 2024 cycle during the summer — it bodes well for the Wolverines seeing as Michigan is getting him back on campus just weeks after his official visit with the Maize and Blue. Additionally, Michigan can now sort out any impact that the Huskers had on Smith last weekend.

According to the 247 Sports rankings, Jacob Smith is a four-star linebacker, ranked as the 229th national recruit, the 15th linebacker in his class, and the 5th recruit in the state of Connecticut. He is a significant target for the Wolverines, and with the emergence of another prominent Big Ten program in the mix, Michigan football fans should closely monitor this recruitment throughout the summer.
