The Michigan Wolverines football program is one of the most storied and successful programs in the history of college football. Ann Arbor is home to the winningest program of all time (989 wins), including an impressive 11 claimed national titles and 44 Big Ten championships, which is the most of any team. Recently, a new algorithm was used to rank the top college football programs of all time, and the Wolverines found themselves among the top three.
Michigan Wolverines football ranked top 3 all-time
According to this new algorithm, the Michigan football program has been ranked No. 3 all-time and is the top team in the Big Ten conference. There are only two programs ahead of the Maize and Blue: Alabama (1) and Notre Dame (2).
It is worth noting that Michigan football is ranked No. 3, one spot ahead of their biggest rival, the Ohio State Buckeyes, who are close behind at No. 4. The only other Big Ten conference teams to appear in the top 15 are the Nebraska Cornhuskers (7), the Penn State Nittany Lions (9), and the Minnesota Golden Gophers (11). Additionally, the USC Trojans, who will be joining the Big Ten next year, are ranked as the 6th-best program on the list.
This year, Michigan football could further bolster its status as one of the greatest programs of all time by making a third-straight run at the Big Ten and national championships. This is likely Jim Harbaugh’s best shot at winning it all, and the nation is clamoring about what the Maize and Blue are capable of during the coming year.
