Last weekend, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy led his Wolverines to a massive win over Minnesota — a game that propelled the Maize and Blue to 6-0 on the year. Heading into Week 7, it’s clear that the Wolverines have one of the best quarterbacks in college football; not only is JJ among the top Heisman contenders right now, but his QBR of 93.6 is the best in the country for the time being. On Wednesday, QB coach Kirk Campbell gave more detail on the Michigan star, further adding to the hype surrounding McCarthy right now.
New hype emerging for Michigan football quarterback
From his on-field skillset to his off-field leadership, JJ McCarthy is the “ideal” Michigan football quarterback. Here is what QB coach Kirk Campbell had to say about his star quarterback ahead of the Wolverines’ matchup against Indiana this weekend.
“I think (JJ McCarthy) is the ideal — not only quarterback but really, person to represent a program,” Kirk Campbell said. “He’s just very unselfish. He’s about the team. And he’s the type of leader you want to have at a program such as Michigan. Just an unbelievable kid, disciplined in life, and how he treats his teammates as how he wants to be treated. I just think that’s infectious among the whole team.”
JJ McCarthy has an elite pre-snap menu
Kirk Campbell had a lot more to say about his QB, though another thing that stood out was his praise of JJ McCarthy’s “pre-snap menu.” According to Campbell, the Michigan football offense is thriving right now because of what McCarthy is able to do ahead of the play.
“We have different ways that we can do that,” he said. “Obviously, I’m not gonna get in on all that stuff. But he has a large menu that has allowed (the offense) to do a lot of different things.”
Michigan football thriving under McCarthy’s guidance on offense
Despite being taken out in the third quarter of all six games thus far, Michigan football and JJ McCarthy have been doing quite well for themselves. McCarthy has completed close to 80% of his passes this year for nearly 1,300 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three picks — the Wolverines’ smallest win so far was a 24-point victory in their Big Ten opener in Week 4.
This Saturday, at noon, Michigan football will host the Indiana Hoosiers at the Big House in Ann Arbor, MI. — the team’s fifth home game (of seven) this year.
