I know that some people, namely Michigan football rivals will roll their eyes at the idea of the Wolverines taking a former FCS transfer at cornerback.
That’s what the Wolverines did with Aamir Hall, who transferred to Michigan football after being an FCS All-American last season with Albany. Yet, the FCS has tons of talented players and Hall is a playmaker who has had multiple seasons with at least 13 pass breakups.
The 6-foot-1, 201-pound corner could be a valuable piece for Michigan football. I’m still betting on Jyaire Hill to be the starter opposite Will Johnson, but in the spread era, Hall will see plenty of snaps, even if he’s a reserve.
Hill will have to earn the job though over Hall and others. Adding competition was important and in an interview with Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, Hall talked about how he looks forward to that competition.
Aamr Hall excited to compete at Michigan
“Competition breeds success,” Hall said. “And I feel like for me this is something that will propel me to the next level, which is my ultimate goal. (Going) where I had to compete every day (is nothing new). It really motivated me to really want to just come in and build on top of the talent that’s in this room. We have a really special room and we’re adding more pieces now. So, it feels really dope to just be a part of that and actually come in and compete.”
Hall said he was excited to play in an NFL system. Michigan football is also running stuff, “You’ll see on Sundays.” He also talked about the kind of player U-M fans can expect to see.
What Aamir Hall brings to Michigan
“(I’m) a very physical, very tenacious, just relentless type of corner,” Hall said. “I came into college (not having) played corner. I was a safety in high school. I’m just used to coming downhill. I like to be around the football and make plays on the football. That’s a little bit just about my game. And obviously, over time I’ve really learned to hone in on some of my man techniques. That’s something that I take pride in, just being able to lock down one side of the field.”
I love that Hall takes pride in locking down one side of the field. If he can do that for Michigan football, or even just add quality depth, he’ll be a solid addition to the secondary.
