Heading into the 2023 college football season, the Wolverines are being touted as top national title contenders, alongside the likes of Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, and more. One major reason for these high expectations is Jim Harbaugh’s utilization of the transfer portal. So far, during the first few days of fall camp in Ann Arbor, new Michigan football transfer edge rusher Josaiah Stewart has been standing out among the team’s best defenders.

Josaiah Stewart arrived at Michigan football as a four-star edge rusher in Jim Harbaugh’s impressive 2023 transfer portal signing class. After making a mark with Coastal Carolina over the past two years, Stewart decided it was time to elevate his game and compete in the Big Ten conference at the winningest program of all time.

“I belong here,” he said when asked about what he intends to prove during his time in Ann Arbor. “Everybody is doubting, everybody is questioning, you know, ‘how can he play in the Big Ten?’ Well, I’m going to show you guys, that’s all there is to it.”

During the ongoing fall camp, many of the top leaders of the Michigan football team have identified Stewart as a standout breakout candidate, highlighting his performance thus far leading up to the 2023 college football season.

“Stew (Josaiah Stewart) man, he’s not the biggest guy, but trust me, get in your pads and he’ll take you for a ride,” said veteran edge rusher Jaylen Harrell. “The energy he plays with and the quick twitch acceleration, you can look at him small but he can get under you and take you for a ride. Size really doesn’t matter here.”

Even JJ McCarthy, the third-year quarterback and one of the most vocal leaders on this year’s roster, acknowledges that this new Michigan football transfer edge rusher is displaying elite skills throughout the first week of fall camp.

“The defensive line is moving, they are going to be a threat this year,” said junior quarterback JJ McCarthy. “I give them props every single day so far that they’re just getting to me really quick. It’s just great to see, it helps our offensive line out tremendously. A couple of those boys out front, like Josaiah Stewart — he’s gonna be great this year.”

Keep a close watch on Josaiah Stewart this fall. While the Wolverines’ pass-rushing unit appears formidable at the moment, there is a strong possibility that this new Michigan football transfer addition will earn a stout reputation during his first season in the Maize and Blue.
