The Wolverines are in pursuit of a third-straight Big Ten conference title and more this fall. With a slightly revamped roster from the 2022 season, the Maize and Blue are poised for great things — if this year’s Michigan football defense is to take yet another step forward and lead the way, a new face may need to step up. Transfer portal addition Ernest Hausmann — a rising sophomore who initially started with Nebraska — may soon become the cornerstone of the Wolverines’ defensive attack.

Ernest Hausmann could be a focal point for the Michigan football defense in 2023

Ernest Hausmann saw an impressive start to his college football career during his lone season with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In fact, his breakout performance in 2022 came in Ann Arbor, MI, recording 10 tackles and a sack against Michigan football during the Wolverines’ 34-3 victory over Nebraska in mid-November.

With the 2023 season fast approaching, Michigan’s new transfer portal linebacker is generating tons of national hype and is already being pinned as a top performer on the Wolverines’ new roster. If this year’s Michigan football defense is to lead the way to another College Football Playoff run, Hausmann may need to step into a much larger role for the Maize and Blue.

Another face to watch on the Michigan football defense will be Junior Colson, a fellow linebacker who will be leading the way alongside Ernest Hausmann. For many reasons, there may not be a more important duo on the defensive side of the football than Hausmann and Colson — the linebackers are the quarterbacks of the defense, and these two have the talent to make this year’s Wolverines the best that the program has ever seen.

A lot is at stake for Michigan football and its fans throughout the 2023 season — as the saying goes, “pressure creates diamonds,” which could be the case with the Wolverines’ new transfer portal linebacker addition, Ernest Hausmann.
