We have all been repeatedly told how disappointing the 2023 Michigan football recruiting class was. Despite coming off of back-to-back Playoff appearances and Big Ten titles, the Wolveirnes’ class ranked 3rd in the Big Ten and 18th in the nation. It was a solid class, but if Michigan football expects to stay in CFP contention annually, the Wolverines will need to land more blue-chip talent in the future.

That is precisely what Michigan football has been doing in the 2024 class as of late. So far, Michigan’s 2024 class has seven commits — five of which are four-star prospects. The class also contains a three-star and one unranked player.

The Wolverines’ most recent commit — Jacob Oden, out of Harper Woods High School in Michigan — has already begun recruiting other top prospects to Ann Arbor. After Oden’s commitment, Harbaugh’s class ranks in the top 5. However, Michigan football also leads for several other big-name players, such as five-star QB Jadyn Davis, meaning the class will likely continue to improve.

Oden recruiting top prospects to Michigan football

After Oden’s commitment, Brice Marich of 247 Sports took note of Oden’s recruiting efforts via his Instagram. Oden posted a link to Marich’s story, citing that Michigan football had obtained top 5 status in the 2024 class, and captioned it, “Let’s make some moves.” Additionally, Oden tagged three of the Wolverines’ biggest targets: Bryce West, Jeremiah Beasley, and Boo Carter.

All three swiftly responded to Oden’s call-out and seemingly had some interest in joining Oden in Ann Arbor. All three are high on Jim Harbaugh’s big board, and if they can be lured to Michigan football, the Wolverines may finish 2024 with the best class in the Big Ten.

It is great to see that Michigan’s new commits are already working to bring more talent to Ann Arbor — this is exactly what JJ McCarthy did as a prospect, and it clearly worked out well in 2021.
