This fall, during his first season as the Wolverines’ full-time play-caller, Michigan football offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore has done a solid job of mixing trick plays into the team’s offensive scheme against teams like Ohio State and others. For Alabama Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban, one of the best the game has ever seen, he and his team will be ready for whatever Michigan tries to throw their way.

Last week, Alabama hired ex-Michigan linebackers coach George Helow. This week, Nick Saban is talking about being prepared for Sherrone Moore to lob trick plays at Bama’s defense. Needless to say, the Tide are coming into the Rose Bowl ready for whatever Michigan may throw it at.

With under two weeks until Alabama and Michigan football face off in Pasadena, CA, the Alabama Crimson Tide appears ready for the Wolverines’ entire playbook.

“I think they do a really good job on offense of week-to-week — they’ve got a pretty good plan formationally in terms of their ability to go out and give you some different looks,” Alabama coach Nick Saban explained. “It’s a challenge for the players to have the discipline and the eye control to look at the right things so that when those kind of plays come up, you’re in position to play them.

“I don’t think that they do (trick plays) any more than anybody else that we play. I just think it’s a good part of your offense to be able to have those things that complement some of the things you do, down in and down out.”

Sherrone Moore must bring his A-game

In some games this fall, Sherrone Moore and the Michigan football offense seemed to open things up quite a bit, such as the Wolverines’ 30-24 win over Ohio State in late-November. In other games, such as Michigan’s 24-15 win over Penn State, Sherrone Moore closed down the playbook, running the ball over 30 consecutive times to secure the win.

Against Bama, no one is quite sure what the Maize and Blue will do; however, seeing as the Tide have one of the most dangerous defenses in the game right now, Michigan football will have to bring its A-game regardless.
