Michigan basketball is hosting multiple transfer portal targets for visits this weekend, but that doesn’t mean that Dusty May is standing pat.

The new Michigan basketball head coach has the Wolverines in the mix for a bunch of targets. He does have eight open scholarships right now, so it makes sense that he would be contacting tons of players, but the effort has been impressive all the same.

Roddy Gayle is one target we have talked about before. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists last season for the Buckeyes. He shot 44 percent overall and while his 3-point percentage was just 28 last season, he made 41 percent from beyond the arc as a freshman, plus shot better than 80 at the free throw line both seasons.

Gayle can shoot. He can also get to the bucket. I’m not overly worried about the 3-point percentage. That should correct itself, especially based on his free throw percentage. The dude is a good shooter. He will take an official visit to Michigan basketball next weekend according to Jeff Goodman of Field of 68.

Colby Rogers is another scoring guard that’s in the mix and it still has me thinking these could all be secondary options if Johnell Davis doesn’t work out. I could be wrong on that, but either way, it’s been fun watching May work.

Michigan basketball makes top five for transfer

Tulane guard Kobly King included Michigan basketball in his top five on Saturday. It sounds like a visit is in the works for King, who averaged 10.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists. He shot 36 percent from 3-point range, while playing point guard and off the ball for Tulane. Butler, Utah, Dayton, and South Carolina are also in the mix.

King would be an interesting fit for Michigan basketball. My read is that he would likely come off the bench if May was able to land his other preferred targets. However, a talented combo guard isn’t something to scoff at.

The Wolverines need multiple guards who can play this season and King fits the mold. There are also just five starting spots and some of the transfers will have to be accepting of a bench role.

May does start and play multiple guards though, which is a selling point and will be interesting to see how it all shakes out.
