Perhaps the top Michigan football transfer target on the market right now is Dante Moore, a former five-star quarterback who just wrapped up his first year with the UCLA Bruins. Last week, the Oregon Ducks — who are one of the top teams for Moore, right beside Michigan and Ohio State — took transfer portal QB Dillon Gabriel from Oklahoma, which many thought would end their pursuit of another quarterback. That said, it is now being reported that Moore will still be visiting, seeing as there remains some mutual interest.
Top Michigan football transfer target still visiting Oregon Ducks, per report
One of the biggest recruiting misses of Jim Harbaugh’s tenure with Michigan football was Dante Moore, a five-star quarterback from the class of 2023 and the former No. 1 recruit in the state of Michigan. Out of high school, Moore initially committed to Oregon, then flipped to UCLA, where he eventually enrolled and started as a freshman.
After a disappointing rookie year in the collapsing PAC-12, Dante Moore decided it was time to hit the transfer portal in search of a new home — Michigan football immediately became a top contender. The other three schools being reported as major players here are Ohio State, Oregon, and Miami, and he will likely be visiting all four.
A new QB1 is not stopping Oregon and others from contending for Dante Moore
Despite the fact that the Oregon Ducks just took Dilon Gabriel, which most believed would eliminate them from contending for Dante Moore as well, the former UCLA passer will still be visiting with the Ducks, per Tom VanHaaren of ESPN. Per VanHaaren’s report, Moore’s family is also looking to set up other visits — which I assume will likely include a trip back to Ann Arbor — though that remains to be seen.
Even if JJ McCarthy stays, the Wolverines want to grab Moore from the transfer portal
Seeing as Dante Moore is not worried about starting right off the bat — he is reportedly mostly concerned with development more than anything — Michigan football could make a lot of sense, even if JJ McCarthy decides to come back. On a similar note, Gabriel’s commitment to Oregon does not appear to be a deterring factor, either, meaning the Ducks will remain a contender for this major Michigan football transfer target — for the time being, at least.
