On Monday, priority Michigan football transfer portal target Upton Stout — a defensive back out of Western Kentucky — was in Ann Arbor for a visit with the Wolverines. Stout has become a major target for a number of schools, and seeing as he has a player comparison to Mike Sainristil, there is no question that Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff would love to get his commitment sooner rather than later. That said, the USC Trojans, who will be an opposing Big Ten school come summer, are also a strong contender right now.

Ever since Upton Stout first announced that he was in the transfer portal, it has been quite clear that Michigan football had a lot of interest. On Monday, Stout posted on his social media that he was in Ann Arbor for a visit with the Wolverines — something that could end up being a major deciding factor for the Maize and Blue down the stretch.

Stout’s trip north to Ann Arbor comes off the heels of a reported visit to Los Angeles, where he was visiting with the USC Trojans, starting on December 8th. Speaking of trips to LA,  Stout picked a fantastic time to visit with Michigan football, seeing as the Wolverines are getting ready for a bout against Alabama in the College Football Playoff (Rose Bowl) in less than three weeks.

Watching the No. 1 team in the nation prep for Bama in the CFP is presumably more engaging than watching a  7-5 team’s backup QB prep for the Holiday Bowl.

Michigan appears to have the lead for Upton Stout

Per the On3 Recruiting Prediction machine, both Michigan football and the USC Trojans are strong contenders right now. That said, it appears that Upton Stout is favored to land in Ann Arbor all said and done as Michigan holds the best odds (48.1%) of landing him, narrowly pulling ahead of USC (42.1%) on Monday.

The transfer portal recruiting process can be grueling, and a lot can still happen between now and when Stout announces his commitment; however, Michigan football is trending in a fantastic direction with this major transfer target for the time being.
