As people celebrate the first day of the new year, Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines prepare for battle in what could be the biggest game of Harbaugh’s tenure. Tonight, Michigan will play Alabama in the Rose Bowl for a chance to play in the national championship. With a win in tonight’s game, Michigan football could set a program record for a second straight year.
Michigan football could set program record for most wins in a season
Just last year, Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football celebrated its first-ever 13-win season. However, team 144 has a chance to accomplish what last year’s team fell just short of: a 14-win season. This would set the new program record for most wins in a season.
Michigan football has fallen short for two straight seasons. But this year’s team will look to break the cycle and win Michigan’s first bowl game since 2015. A win would also send Michigan football to their very first national championship game.
Standing in the way of this milestone victory is Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide, a team that has been red hot ever since their only loss of the season to Texas. As it stands, the Michigan football defense has the fewest yards allowed across all FBS schools.
Michigan’s defense will need to continue their dominance tomorrow if they wish to slow down Jalen Milroe and the Alabama offense, which averages 35.08 points per game. Kickoff for the Rose Bowl is set for 5 PM EST.
