As I write this, the University of Michigan is being investigated by the NCAA for a few alleged violations, including recruiting infractions from the COVID-19 dead period and the infamous Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal. Heading into his first year as head coach in Ann Arbor, Sherrone Moore finally broke his silence on the Michigan football investigations and more.

Sherrone Moore comments on Michigan football investigations

Sherrone Moore is getting his name out there in a major way as of late, appearing on a number of the top sports shows in the country during the first few months of his tenure as head coach. For the Maize and Blue, the 2024 season holds a lot of unknowns — not only are names like Jim Harbaugh and JJ McCarthy leaving, but the NCAA investigations into the Wolverines will not be stopping, and Moore knows it.

“That’s something that’s out there,” Sherrone Moore told Rish Eisen, talking about the sign-stealing scandal and more. “We don’t know what’s going to happen with it. And we’re just going to take it day by day. You know, obviously, I think the President made a great statement and talked about how, you know, our players — and we won it fair and square. Just like (Jim Harbaugh) said, I think we’re innocent, and we’ll just keep trucking along and attacking every day. And that’s what we’re gonna do.”

Time to see what the NCAA elects to do with the sign-stealing infractions and recruiting violations

Last year, Sherrone Moore got his first chance to lead the Wolverines as head coach due to the investigations; in fact, Moore was named acting head coach for four games due to Jim Harbaugh’s suspensions throughout the 2023 season. Over the course of those four games, Moore established himself as the team’s clear-cut choice to be Harbaugh’s successor, going 4-0 with wins over No. 9 Penn State and No. 2 Ohio State.

We’ll see what the NCAA decides to do with its current Michigan football investigations as the 2024 season nears, but one thing appears certain right now: Sherrone Moore and his Wolverines are ready to handle whatever happens next in this saga.
