The time is coming for nine-year Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh to decide his future — he will either be staying in Ann Arbor with the Wolverines or heading back to the NFL, likely landing with the LA Chargers. With Harbaugh’s next move in question, betting odds have been released for a potential replacement at Michigan, and there are some interesting names in the mix, including PJ Fleck, Sherrone Moore, Brian Kelly, and more.

Sherrone Moore has best odds to be next Michigan football coach

First off, if Jim Harbaugh is to leave Michigan football, Sherrone Moore will likely get the call — he led the Wolverines to four impressive wins with Harbaugh suspended in 2023, including a 24-15 victory over No. 10 Penn State and a 30-24 victory over No. 2 Ohio State. Per BetMichigan, Moore is the clear frontrunner with +200 odds and a 33.3 percent chance of becoming the Wolverines’ next head coach if Harbaugh is to leave.

Other candidates include PJ Fleck, Brian Kelly, and more

Other candidates listed include names like Chris Kleiman of Kansas State, PJ Fleck of Minnesota, and Brian Kelly of LSU. Notably, Michigan football defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, the best DC in college football, is also listed among the top contenders, though only has a 7.7 percent chance of getting the call.

Other notable names that fans may recognize include Eli Drinkwitz of Missouri (+1000) and Matt Campbell of Iowa State (+1000). Of course, those of you on Twitter will recall the few months back in 2020 when some Wolverines fans were calling for Campbell to replace Jim Harbaugh at the helm in Ann Arbor, though I doubt many Michigan football fans are fond of that idea anymore.

Jim Harbaugh still deciding on future

We’ll see where Jim Harbaugh winds up and who is Michigan football coach in 2024, but these are some of the top names to know as the offseason hits its full swing.
