Now, JJ McCarthy isn’t running a route or covered by Will Johnson here, but it’s still an impressive feat for the Wolverines’ second-year starting quarterback. The pass and catch, which was initially caught on the Big Ten Network, further shows how athletic JJ McCarthy truly is — while he won’t be lining up on the outside, there are a number of other jobs that McCarthy is going to be asked to fill this fall.

Now, fans shouldn’t get too used to JJ McCarthy making head-turning catches this year, but if he rips off a few massive runs and makes some game-changing throws, don’t be too surprised. During fall practice, McCarthy has made it a point to outline his plans to run the football more, which is another aspect of his game that should have the entire Big Ten on notice. During last year’s Fiesta Bowl, the nation got a taste of what JJ can do — aside from two costly mistakes, McCarthy unleashed a deadly dual-threat attack that kept his Wolverines in the game.
