With JJ McCarthy heading to the 2024 NFL Draft in the spring, the Wolverines will have a quarterback battle this offseason for the first time since 2022, when McCarthy beat Cade McNamara for the starting role. We polled nearly 3,600 Michigan football fans on our social media — from Alex Orji to a transfer portal grab, here is who they want to be QB1 next fall.

Who do Michigan football fans want at quarterback in 2024?

Heading into the offseason, Michigan football has a number of options at quarterback, though replacing JJ McCarthy will undoubtedly be a tough task for the Maize and Blue.

We polled nearly 3,600 Michigan fans heading into the offseason, and they seem to have a specific QB1 in mind: rising junior athlete Alex Orji. Orji is yet to get to throw the football much, though he is said to be the best overall athlete on the team and will have his shot at being QB1 for the Wolverines come next fall.

Rising junior Alex Orji comes in at No. 1

Per our poll, 57.7 percent of Michigan football fans are rolling with Alex Orji as their starting quarterback heading into next season.

A new transfer portal QB?

Our poll’s next most popular answer (23.7 percent) was a transfer portal quarterback, despite the fact that the current transfer class is not looking all that great. Additionally, aside from a short-lived saga with Dante Moore ahead of the CFP, Michigan football has not shown a ton of interest in bringing in a transfer portal QB.

Freshman Jadyn Davis

The third most popular answer was Jadyn Davis, a four-star freshman for the Maize and Blue who saw his first practice reps ahead of the Rose Bowl Game last year. Davis hauled in 12.7 percent of the vote.

Rising junior Jayden Denegal

Lastly, Michigan’s massive 6-foot-5 quarterback Jayden Denegal came in fourth place, earning 5.9 percent of the vote. While he has substantially less hype than Alex Orji, Kirk Campbell said he may be the Wolverines’ most improved player last season, even throwing a touchdown against Nebraska during Michigan’s 45-7 win in Lincoln, NE.
