The Michigan football recruiting efforts in the 2024 cycle have been nothing short of impressive thus far — Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines have 26 commits in the class (and counting), ranking 4th nationally and 2nd among Big Ten schools. While the class is starting to wind down a bit, the Maize and Blue are still looking to lock down a few top remaining targets, including major five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo. Recently, Wingo named Michigan a top program in his recruitment and is reportedly giving the Wolverines “a strong look” ahead of his commitment announcement.

Michigan football recruiting earns high praise from five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo

Ryan Wingo could be a massive get for Michigan football recruiting in the current class — as things stand right now, he would be the Wolverines’ only five-star and would come in as Michigan’s newest top-rated commit in the class. That said, Michigan has some major competition for Wingo, and it appears that the Wolverines are a bit behind in his recruitment thus far.

Still, Wingo recently broke down his top choices and gave some high praise for the Michigan football program.

I’ve been to Michigan a few times and went to the Michigan State game last year,” Ryan Wingo said of Michigan football, per 247 Sports. “I had a good official visit and I like the recruiting class they’re bringing in. I’m close with Jadyn Davis and talk with him all the time. I sat with him at the Michigan State game last year and I knew he really liked Michigan a lot. The players have been great with me there and I love the tradition at Michigan so I’m giving them a strong look.”

Wolverines could make late push for this major 5-star target

Right now, the jewel of the 2024 Michigan football recruiting class is Jadyn Davis, one of the nation’s best quarterbacks and a top commit for the Wolverines. That said, every elite quarterback needs elite wide receivers to match, meaning Wingo has become a top priority target for the Maize and Blue down the stretch.

On top of Wingo, Michigan has already landed four-star wide receiver Channing Goodwin and appears close with four-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair. For the time being, all is well for the Wolverines on the recruiting trail and beyond. Per the 247 rankings, Wingo is a five-star recruit, ranking as the No. 7 player in the nation and the No. 2 wideout in the 2024 cycle. He claims that his commitment announcement will come on December 20th of this year.
