The Michigan Wolverines are heading into a season full of massive expectations — Michigan football has what many believe to be the top running back room in the nation, which is headlined by senior Blake Corum and junior Donovan Edwards. Behind these two elite backs is Michigan football freshman running back Benjamin Hall, who shinned during the spring game, adds to the Wolverines’ elite depth, and brings a unique presence to the backfield for the Wolverine offense this fall.

Both Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards are elite running backs with different skill sets — Michigan football will thrive with both backs in the backfield and has a lot of options in just about any down and distance.
A year ago, it was clear that Corum was getting a bit too many carries as he was injured during Michigan’s Week 12 matchup against Illinois. This fall, things are going to look a bit different, as the Wolverines now have a third great option with a different skillset: Benjamin Hall, a massive wrecking ball who will be perfect in short yardage.
Hall may play a bigger role than expected this fall
The Michigan Wolverines have added some much-needed depth to their running back room for the upcoming season, thanks in part to the impressive performance of freshman running back Benjamin Hall during the team’s spring game. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 235 pounds, Hall is a powerhouse runner similar to Hassan Haskins, but has been noted to struggle in open spaces like Haskins. However, when faced with a line of defenders and ten yards to gain, Hall has proven to be a reliable option for securing a first down. During the spring game, he demonstrated his strength by dragging defenders and powering his way through the field.
Coach Mike Hart shared his thoughts on the Wolverines’ backfield, highlighting the team’s newfound depth:
“Yeah, I think we’re really deep,” Michigan running backs coach Mike Hart said when asked about the team’s RB depth. “I definitely feel a lot better this time of year than I did last year. We’ve got a lot of depth, you know, guys are competing, as we’re going into fall camp, but definitely feel really good about our running game right now.”
Benjamin Hall’s remarkable size and impressive running skills, despite being a freshman, make him a potential standout on this year’s Michigan football team. Moreover, given the ongoing health concerns surrounding some of the other running backs, Hall may have more opportunities to play than many expect.
