On Tuesday, the new College Football Playoff polls will be released by the committee, and some shake-ups are undoubtedly in store for the Maize and Blue. After beating Ohio State for the third year in a row, downing the Buckeyes 30-24 at the Big House on Saturday, U-M is now 12-0 heading into the Big Ten title game for the second season consecutive season. In fact, if you ask ex-SEC coach and current college football analyst Dan Mullen, Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football should be ranked above all others — even the Georgia Bulldogs — at No. 1 in the new polls.

Michigan football improves to 12-0 with win over Ohio State

Dan Mullen, who coached in the SEC for a decade at Mississippi State and Florida, is quickly becoming a top college football media personality. After a thrilling slate of Week 13 games — including No. 3 Michigan football beating No. 2 Ohio State for the third year in a row, Mullen has a new No. 1 team in the nation: Jim Harbaugh’s Michigan Wolverines.

The Wolverines, who are 12-0 entering conference title weekend for the second season in a row, are as hot as any team in the country right now. To make things worse for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the College Football Playoff field, JJ McCarthy is playing his best football (as we saw against the Buckeyes), Michigan is mostly healthy, and Jim Harbaugh is returning to the sidelines this weekend after wrapping up his three-game sideline ban following the Ohio State game.

According to the latest top 25 poll from Dan Mullen, Michigan football should be the nation’s new No. 1 team, even jumping the undefeated Georgia Bulldogs, who Mullen ranks at No. 2. Right now, Mullen’s playoff field is: Michigan (1), Georgia (2), Florida State (3), and Washington (4). Knocking on the door is Oregon (5), Texas (6), Ohio State (7), and Alabama (8).

This weekend will tell us a lot about who the Wolverines really are, though it’s expected that Jim Harbaugh will lead Michigan football to a third-straight Big Ten title and a potential Rose Bowl (CFP) berth around New Year’s Day.
